With so much rain this summer, mosquitoes are becoming quite rampant here! I have done some research on plants that naturally repel these creatures. Grow these plants in containers and pots. Surround your patio and/or deck with them:
Basil – very pungent herb that turns away mosquitos
Catnip – some studies show that catnip is more effective than DEET as a repellent. Keep it in a pot unless you want it to take over your entire yard.
Lavender – hearty plant that’s easy to grow. Like catnip, it’ll take over any garden space, so just be sure to keep it pruned or in a large pot.
Marigolds – also repel insects which prey on tomato plants. Plant a few in your tomato bed for added protection
Citronella Grass – main natural ingredient found in tons of mosquito repellents.
Ageratum – secretes coumarin, which is widely used in commercial mosquito repellents.
